Terror shield hoax

After seeing mention of the "terror shield" incident I looked it up on the GuildWiki and something written there caught my attention:

"The hoax was perpetrated by a user who edited his game world using a tool called GW Texture Editor so that, in his client, Tower Shields appeared as "Terror Shields." Because of this, it was easy to create screenshots and videos of the shield in game. The Terror Shield texture was created from two different wall textures used on the Isle of the Dead Guild Hall which were edited together."

I'm not saying that this is how that shield appeared... but it could easily be a texmod (or variant of) on someone's game that changes whatever sheild that person is carrying to look like the pictures taken. Just a thought.

If you use texmod to alter your graphics, and then take a screenie, it looks exactly like what you see. If you then post that screenie on guru...

Look, it can't be texmod because the other guy pings it, and he sees it.

If it was just texmoded, then the other player would have no reason to fake the ping.

And yes, there are a couple random weapons exclusive to Asia (like those coke weapons).

I was going to suggest that someone who spoke both Japanese and English talk to the guy who had it but who couldn't speak English, but since it seems to be confirmed now, it's probably moot.
I didn't actually look at the link yet (and is it in Japanese? Because I know nothing about that language...), but if the shield is like many of the old bonus weapons and has useless mods, that might explain why it's not often seen.
Just random speculation.
Oh, and excellent catch, ashes.

Right now, I am going on AGF (assume good faith), mostly because ashes doesn't seem to be a troll, he's been skeptical of it himself, and there seems to be official website proof. If it turns out to be a hoax, well then all I can say is that I have to admire the dedication, but right now I'm assuming that all is well and good, and that this is yet another thing for rabid gw-researchers (like Konig and that crowd) to entertain themselves with.

Look at how many people chime in claiming to own one or have sold one. It kind of reminds me of how a few days before the GW anniversary, a bunch of people are walking around Kamadan claiming to be selling or trying to buy anniversary pets because "some beta testers already got them early...".
